Share :

Dear beloved travelers, are you planning to spend your holiday on Komodo and Flores Islands? Diamond Komodo Tour would like to offer advice that you need to consider before deciding on your holiday.

All visitors must organize their visas before embarking on their journey to Indonesia in general, and particularly to Flores Island. It’s important to ensure that you will not encounter any troubles during your holiday.

Nowadays, there are regulations from the Indonesian Immigration for 63 countries allowing entry into Indonesia without obtaining a visa in advance. Visas can be issued upon arrival at airports or seaports. This is known as ‘Visa on Arrival.’ Since 2010, this type of visa can be extended for additional days after the initial period. As a primary requirement for managing a visa, you must have a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity upon arrival.

If you are not from one of the 63 countries eligible for ‘Visa on Arrival’ service, you can organize your visa at the consulate in your country or the Indonesian embassy.

If you have completed your visa duration, you can extend it at the immigration offices in Flores Island, with addresses provided below:

Immigration Office in Maumere

Address: Jln. Adi Soetjipto No. 24, Maumere 86111, Flores, NTT, Indonesia.

Phone Number: +623822115

Immigration Office in Labuan Bajo

Remember, Flores Island is a remote region; therefore, you must carry cash if you intend to make purchases at small markets or mini-markets. Many shops do not accept credit cards for payments. You might encounter receiving small change instead of candies in some shops on the island.

In Flores Island, you will encounter many cultural differences. You will receive warm hospitality if you respect the local culture.

It is advisable to wear appropriate attire, especially when visiting traditional villages. Wear a t-shirt that covers your shoulders and shorts that reach below your knees unless you are on a sailing boat in Labuan Bajo or at the beach, where wearing a bikini is acceptable. When visiting traditional villages, it is impolite to change clothes in shared rooms.

Always smile at local people as a sign of friendliness. You can also wave if someone greets you as Mrs. or Mr. while visiting a traditional village. It signifies togetherness, despite coming from different backgrounds.

Avoid giving or accepting things with your left hand, as it is considered unclean (used for bathroom purposes).

Please refrain from giving money or candies to children when visiting villages, as this behavior may encourage begging.

Be polite and ask for permission before taking pictures of local people’s activities. They would appreciate it if you later share those pictures with them.

Dispose of rubbish properly. This is essential for maintaining a clean environment.

According to local moral codes, unmarried couples should sleep in separate accommodations.

Never refuse food or drinks offered to you, as it is considered impolite and insulting to the hosts. Even if you do not plan to consume them, accept and keep them. Additionally, wait for the host’s invitation before starting your meal.
